Does GTA 6 Have Online Multiplayer at Launch?
Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience. What that means for GTA Online, GTA+ and multiplayer on launch day.
Facts checked:
No online mode has been announced for launch. Rockstar describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player experience releasing on 19 November 2026, and has not announced a new GTA Online. Rockstar has launched online modes separately before: GTA Online arrived two weeks after GTA V, and Red Dead Online about a month after Red Dead Redemption 2.
Is GTA 6 single-player only?
Rockstar’s pre-order announcement states that Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience, and its official FAQ says the same. There is no multiplayer mode announced for launch day.
When will GTA 6 Online come out?
Rockstar has not announced it. For context, GTA Online launched on 1 October 2013, two weeks after GTA V, and Red Dead Online’s beta began on 27 November 2018, about a month after Red Dead Redemption 2. Any date for a GTA 6 online mode is speculation until Rockstar confirms it.
What happens to the current GTA Online?
Rockstar has not announced any change to the existing GTA Online. The free month of GTA+ — Rockstar’s GTA Online membership — included with digital GTA 6 pre-orders suggests it continues alongside the new game.
