Rumour: GTA 6's Save & Load Feature Was "Completely Broken" Here's What We Actually Know

A gossip site claimed GTA 6's save and load system is completely broken and could cause another delay. Kotaku's Zack Zwiezen and a Rockstar source have both called it nonsense.

A fresh wave of GTA 6 delay anxiety hit the internet this week, this time courtesy of UK gossip newsletter Popbitch, which claimed that the game's save and load system is "completely broken."

According to the report, earlier versions of the game were not built with the save and load feature in mind, and implementing it is described as "highly advanced work." To make things worse, Popbitch claims the person responsible for building the feature was laid off in 2025, leaving nobody at the studio apparently able to pick it up. The implication, of course, was yet another delay to the already-pushed-back November 19, 2026 release date.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for the rumour to get shot down.

Kotaku reporter Zack Zwiezen who previously broke news of development delays before the first announcement back in May 2025 called the claim "complete and utter nonsense," and added that from what he understands, GTA 6 does in fact have saving and loading. A source close to Rockstar echoed that, confirming the rumour is completely false and that GTA 6 will feature standard saving and loading mechanics exactly as you'd expect from any modern AAA title.

So where does this leave us? Exactly where we were before. Rockstar's last official communication was the second delay announcement back in November 2025, and a proper marketing campaign isn't expected until this summer. That silence is what keeps the rumour mill spinning, and it's why claims like this one get any traction at all.

Take-Two reassured investors during a February earnings call that the marketing push would begin in summer, and confirmed the November 19 date is still on track. That lines up with what multiple insiders have said separately about the date being firm.

It's worth remembering that earlier in 2026, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported the game still wasn't "content complete," which is the more credible concern sitting in the background. But a gossip site claiming Rockstar forgot to implement saving? That one you can safely ignore.

GTA 6 is currently targeting November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
