Rockstar Games has announced that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will officially open on June 25 across digital storefronts and at select retailers. The news came alongside the reveal of the game's official cover art, which is also available as a free downloadable print at rockstargames.com/VI. A price reveal is expected to accompany the pre-order launch, ending months of speculation over what the game will cost.
The Price Question
GTA VI's pricing has been one of the most discussed unknowns heading into launch. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously referenced a $70 to $80 range in passing, though no official figure has ever been confirmed. Bank of America analysts have suggested the game could land at $80, a price point that would set a new benchmark for AAA console releases. Any retailer listings that appeared prior to June 25 were confirmed as placeholder figures and not official pricing.
Context: A Long Road to Pre-Orders
GTA VI has already slipped twice from its original window. Rockstar first targeted Fall 2025, then moved to May 26, 2026, before a second delay in November 2025 pushed the game to its current date. On both occasions, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick cited the need for additional polish. That history made the absence of pre-orders increasingly conspicuous as launch approached.
Zelnick had signalled earlier in 2026 that Rockstar's marketing campaign would begin around the start of summer, telling Variety: "When it's summertime, Rockstar expects to start marketing GTA VI." The June 25 pre-order announcement lands squarely in that window.
What We Know About the Game
GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, centred on a return to Vice City. Players control a dual-protagonist setup following Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, a criminal duo navigating a state-wide conspiracy after a failed heist.
No PC release date has been announced. Based on Rockstar's history with GTA V, which arrived on PC roughly 18 months after its console debut, most analysts expect a PC version sometime in 2027 or 2028.
For context on the scale of anticipation: GTA V has sold over 230 million copies since its 2013 release, and Zelnick has publicly described GTA VI as "arguably the most anticipated entertainment property of all time."
Cover Art
The official cover art is available to download for free at rockstargames.com/VI. A dedicated cover art reveal video has also been published on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel.
