2008-2013 - Liberty City to Los Santos

An Irish mob enforcer flees Liberty City and shows up as a random event in GTA V, bridging the HD Universe.

Patrick "Packie" McReary is one of the few characters to physically appear in both GTA IV and GTA V, bridging the HD Universe's two main entries.

GTA IV

Packie is one of Niko's closest friends in Liberty City. A hot-headed Irish-American enforcer from the McReary crime family, Packie partners with Niko for the legendary Bank of Liberty heist. He's loyal, funny, and deeply troubled by his family's dysfunction.

GTA V

Packie appears as a random event in Los Santos - he's robbing a pharmacy and needs a getaway driver. If the player picks him up, Packie becomes available as a gunman for heist crews. He's left Liberty City behind, but his criminal skills are intact.

Significance

Packie's presence in GTA V confirms that the HD Universe games share a connected world. His casual appearance also shows how GTA V handles returning characters - as Easter eggs and optional discoveries rather than mandatory plot points.
